Evaluations & Assessments

Understanding & Assessing Behavior

At Bee-Have, we are committed to teaching children appropriate social, emotional, and behavioral skills. To do this, we first need to understand why certain problem behaviors occur, where they happen, and what purpose they serve for the child. Through comprehensive assessments, we identify challenges and create personalized treatment plans to support your child’s success.

Concerned About ASD?

If your child is showing signs of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), we recommend speaking with your pediatrician. They can guide you toward further evaluation with a developmental specialist if needed. While Bee-Have does not provide diagnoses, we can assess your child’s current skill levels, behaviors, and goals, and create an individualized treatment plan—whether or not they have a formal diagnosis. After the assessment, we guide you on the next steps to ensure your child gets the right support.

The Assessment Process

Step 1: Initial Assessment & Consultation

  • We meet with parents and/or school staff to discuss concerns.

  • We engage directly with your child and conduct parent interviews or questionnaires using appropriate assessment tools.

Step 2: Report Draft & Review

  • Our team compiles all gathered information into a draft report outlining observations, baseline data, and recommended goals.

  • We schedule an in-person review meeting, where all parties go over the report together and agree on necessary revisions.

Step 3: Finalized Report & Next Steps

  • A finalized electronic copy of the report is provided.

  • We assist in guiding you through the next steps and offer continued support for any future questions.

Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA)

What is an FBA?

An FBA helps determine why problem behaviors occur and what keeps them going. This assessment leads to the development of positive, proactive interventions and an individualized Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP).

What’s Included in an FBA?

  • Home & School-Based Observations – We observe behavior across multiple settings (classroom, playground, home) over several days.

  • Indirect & Direct Assessments – This includes interviews with teachers/caregivers, data collection, and hands-on assessments.

  • Behavior Analysis – We define problem behaviors (e.g., tantrums, eloping, aggression) and assess skill deficits (e.g., difficulty communicating, handling transitions, coping with frustration).

  • Developing a Treatment Plan – Based on findings, we create realistic goals and intervention strategies to help your child succeed.

Assessments We Provide

  • Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS-2): A clinical rating scale used to evaluate signs of autism based on direct observations. This tool helps differentiate between autism and other developmental delays.

  • Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP): A language and learning assessment designed for children with autism or language delays, covering 170 developmental milestones across three levels (0-48 months).

  • Developmental Assessment of Young Children (DAYC-2): A tool for identifying developmental delays in children up to 5 years 11 months, evaluating cognition and social/emotional development through observations, caregiver interviews, and direct assessments.

  • Adaptive Behavior Assessment System (ABAS-3): A comprehensive assessment measuring adaptive skills across all ages, useful for individuals with autism, intellectual disabilities, learning challenges, or neurodevelopmental disorders.
